  • 1. Worldwide companies like Amazon and FedEx are replacing human beings with automated labor because at the end of the day it is more cheaper and can work the 24 hours straight. This pandemic have caused many changes in companies. The idea of creating labor automation has been for decades and during this pandemic the delivery companies have growth in demand. The need for more efficiency and creating a cheaper labor is now the focus of many companies.

    2. Automation can bring many benefits like higher production rates, better product quality and increase productivity. There can be a negative effects of automation in society as well like losing a big amount of jobs and communities that relied on one single industry will struggle to recover.

  • Companies are constantly looking for new processes in cheaper production and delivery of goods and services. Some advantages to increased automation are that it does limit human to human contact during this pandemic. Also that the bots used in manufacturing are able to work 24 hours straight through without breaks. However the disadvantages are that human involvement is still needed due to the machines not being as fast as humans and human oversight is needed, especially due to breakdowns. Humans are also still required to deliver merchandise but more and more layoffs occur due to less warehouse jobs being made available to humans.

  • Many companies such as Amazon and Fedex have already started transitioning into automated labor. During the pandemic, companies have invested more money into automated helpers. As stated in the video, robots can work 24 hours nonstop while employees work a certain amount of hours and clock out, this helps solve the “unkown” when it comes to workers working during the pandemic. It takes away any risk of catching the virus if automated labor is provided and a machine can’t call out leaving you short handed in a workspace at a moments notice. Another advanatge of having automated labor is saving money compared to paying actual employees. Additionally, even though automated labor may be slower, they can work for a much longer period of time. The disadvantage with automated labor is that not all machines are at the point to complete the tasks humans can. Also, if automated labor takes over, it will cause unemployment to skyrise and possibly create a recession.

  • 1.Why are many companies investing in automated labor during the pandemic?
Companies are starting to invest in automated labor during the pandemic was because they are trying to reduce human contact at work. Airports are using temperature and mask detection robots, cleaning bots are sanitizing hospital rooms, and due to the concerns and outbreaks at meat processing plants. They have companies racing to develop robot butchers.
2.What are the advantages and disadvantages of automation?
As it comes with plenty advantages it also comes with plenty of disadvantages. According to FedEx one human can out work 8 of there robots. The robots might be slower but one advantage it has over humans is that yes they work slower, but the fact that they can work 24/7 and consistent makes up for it. But our combination of our vision, flexibility, and our dexterity is something you cant replace in a warehouse

    Question #1
As a result of the global pandemic many companies are investing in automated labor in order to help reduce the company’s costs and ensure their workers safety . An example company would be Fedex, which is a major delivery company for the United States. Due to the pandemic many companies have had to tackle two to three major problems. The first problem is cutting cost as a result of the lack of business they had during the pandemic. The second problem is keeping workers safe and following safety guidelines presented by the CDC. The third problem for some businesses is keeping up with high demand while cutting costs. For the company Fedex, they invested in what is called a robot picker. A robot picker is a robot arm machine which has features and hardware systems in order to pick up packages and place them in boxes to be sent out for delivery to the customers. Robots are beneficial for these companies because they do not get paid and can work for hours on end.

    Question #2
Investing in automation and high tech robots have many advantages and disadvantages for the companies utilizing them. Some advantages include working 24 hours a day without stopping, not having to pay the robots or worry about them taking vacation, easily track the progress each robot makes, and having the robots work in hazardous locations. Some disadvantages include the robots working at a slower pace than a human, having to pay electricity bills, and having the robot malfunction due to a messed up censor or product getting out of robots sight.

  • 1. Many Companies are investing in automated labor during the pandemic because there is less human contact and the machines are more consistent.
    2. The advantages of machines is they are less likely to make mistakes they are faster than humans and they do not spread the virus. The disadvantage is they are not personable and they are not fool proof yet. also humans have to be there to run them still.

  • 1. Why are many companies investing in automated labor during the pandemic?
The Coronavirus pandemic had left the world in a panic after the virus spread faster than ever expected. Many people have been very negatively affected by the virus and people were not allowed to return to work unless they were essential workers. Many companies have decided to invest in automated labor as technology can do people’s jobs for them. If the robots can do people jobs for them, then the virus cannot spread throughout the premises. The automated labor can also efficiently do the tasks that the workers would be doing themselves. Companies are looking for more ways to get their products made and distributed after many people have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and automation helps to do just what they need.

    2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of automation?
Automation has its advantages and disadvantages. In terms of its advantages, automation can make robots with sensors to patrol the airports, robots can clean/sanitize areas which is essential during this current time period, and robots can help with production during a time where many people have lost their jobs. In terms of it disadvantages, automation is slower at completing its jobs than humans are at the job and automation can even lower jobs for humans.

  • many companies invest in automated labor during the pandemic because it would be much easier and faster for things to be done, especially since the pandemic cause much of people being unemployed.
The advantage would be that it reduces the hard work of going from one place to another and having to carry packages and these robots can just do all of that work for you. The disadvantages would be that it could get dangerous within the type of environment they are working with.

  • 1. the robot can’t be infected with the virus and is able to work 24/7. many of the workers may have also left
    2. The robots are able to work 24/7 without taking any breaks, they can also work at a consistent and predictable rate, and they only need to be purchased once. The only disadvantages are that they can’t adapt to different situations and they may increase unemployment for low skill workers

  • 1. Why are many companies investing in automated labor during the pandemic?
Companies are heavily investing in automated labor due to the pandemic that we are currently facing. Since many large companies have strict rules on the pandemic, they are unable to have people do the jobs that they’d usually do, which is why automated labor is the perfect solution. Robots obviously pose no threat of spreading corona virus, so companies are able to keep their factories running with no problems.

    2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of automation?
There are many advantages of having automated labor, but there are also some disadvantages. The demand for items in big name companies such as amazon, are extremely high, especially during the pandemic. Having robots work in factories doing simple jobs such as putting packages on a belt, open up more jobs for people to do other things such as deliver the packages. This helps the companies produce and ship out items faster and faster, which keeps the economy running. The only disadvantage I can truly think of is that some people will definitely lose their jobs, and will have a hard time finding a similar job due to the increase in the use of automated labor.

  • Many companies are investing in automated labor during the pandemic for many reasons. We can all pretty much agree that things will change permanently post pandemic and this would just be the start. Staffing a company with robots rather than humans decreases the spread of any virus significantly. Not only this, but items will be able to ship out faster which is better for the buyer and seller. Sellers will be able to decrease their ship time which customers obviously like. And more people will buy for this reason. Due to this pandemic, companies have realized that they do not need as many employees or office space/ warehouses like they thought they did previously. Robots will increase the production and decrease production cost tremendously.

The advantages and disadvantages are different depending on how you look at it. You could say that the advantages are increased productivity, decreased pay, and so on. But you can also use these same examples are disadvantages. Many people who support their families working in places like this are now out of a job because a robot could do their job slightly faster and the company owners really just don’t want to pay employees. There are obviously many advantages to doing something like this and using it in all major companies, but all that this really feeds into is the fact that people only care about their own profit rather than helping and spreading the wealth to the little guys who’s financial stability really depends on these jobs that are being taken over by robots.

  • 1. Many companies are investing in automated labor during the pandemic because it always companies to keep working without breaking guidelines and that there is less human contact and the machines are consistent

    2. The advantages are that the machines are very consistent and can produce a lot faster than humans are able too. the disadvantages of this are that the machines are not dummy proof yet so they are still able to make mistakes that humans would be able to react to in real time
